Who am I?

A Bulgarian-born visual artist and photographer based in the Netherlands. My work explores themes of migration, identity, and the politics of memory, often through a research-based approach that combines contemporary photography with archival materials and textual elements.

I pursued my education in photography in the Netherlands and obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (2008–2011) and a Master of Arts in Photography from AKV|St. Joost in Breda (2013–2015).

My last project, Far Away From Home, delves into the contrasting histories of communism in the Netherlands and Bulgaria. The work juxtaposes the Dutch communist resistance during WWII with the oppressive communist regime in Bulgaria post-war. Utilising my own photography alongside archival images, found materials, and literary excerpts, I examine how historical memory shapes contemporary identities and ideologies. The project is granted the 2024 Kraszna-Krausz Photography Book Award and the Athens Photo Festival Pick:24 Book Award; selected for the Best Dutch Book Designs of 2023; shortlisted for the Paris Photo – Aperture Photobook of the Year Award 2023 and the Les Rencontres d’Arles 2023 Photo-Text Book Award.
